Donor sperm treatment (AID)

Donor sperm treatment offers couples a treatment option if the male partner has no sperm. But donor sperm treatment is also an option for lesbian couples and single women to fulfil their desire to have a child.

Donor sperm treatment can be carried out as part of intrauterine insemination or artificial insemination.
Before treatment with donor sperm, legal and psychosocial counselling is necessary. In addition, a contractual agreement between the patient couple and the sperm bank is required. Our cooperation partners here are the Sperm Bank Berlin, the Berlin Sperm Bank and the European Sperm Bank.

Heterosexual couples
If the male partner does not have any sperm, donor sperm treatment can be considered. Legal and psychosocial counselling is necessary before treatment with donor sperm.

Lesbian couples
With the help of donor sperm, lesbian couples can also fulfil their desire to have a child. The prerequisites for treatment with donor sperm are legal and psychosocial counselling. Lesbian couples do not have to be married or in a registered partnership for treatment.

Single women
Single women who wish to have a child can also have their own child through sperm donation. Legal and psychosocial counselling is also required for this. The appointment of a "guarantor person" is not a prerequisite for us.

The Sperm Donor Register Act
On 01.07.2018, the Sperm Donor Register Act came into force. People who were conceived through sperm donation can obtain information about their parentage from the central sperm donor register from the age of 16. Conversely, the donor does not learn your identity or the name of your child. A donor cannot be registered as the father and inheritance and maintenance laws do not apply to donors.
